And can there be a future for DAB?

One French resident in three has access to only a dozen radio stations on modulated frequency. This inequality between regions can’t last. The CSA is to give the green light to the launch of DAB in the Ile-de-France (Greater Paris) region, Marseille and Nice by the end of the year. As far as other areas are concerned, we will have to wait for the results of the studies the government has just ordered. The CSA suggested two years ago that DAB could operate according to a standard which has the huge advantage of cutting broadcasting costs. But in order to impose a standard in France, the agreement of the Brussels Commission is required. The prime minister has decided to refer the matter. Once this standard has been approved, the way ahead should clear: in certain European countries DAB is beginning to work well.
